MARCH / APRIL 2007

Hello and thanks for visiting my site!

My debut album failure to obey a traffic control device is finally being pressed! I'm releasing it under my own name (saving the SYS-X name for non-LP material) and on my own Penna Station label. Check back for updates soon... or even better, use the box at the right to sign up for my mailing list, and I will email you when the cd's have arrived!

NEWS FLASH -- I just licensed a short clip from my tune "soar beyond" for use in the entry page of Italian retailer Luisa Via Roma's web site. This fantastic Flash animation by video artist Luca Fornaciari will only be online for 2 weeks, so check it out now at www.luisaviaroma.com.

STATIC's album Patterns has made the cut for review in Progression Magazine issue No. 51 due out in late April! Since 1992, Progression has been the world's largest, longest-running English-language publication devoted exclusively to the coverage of progressive rock and related subgenres, with loyal subscribers in 49 countries. The magazine circulates domestically and overseas through Borders Books & Music, Tower Records, and many independent music stores.

AD ASTRA ("the artists formerly known as the Joe Nardulli Band") have completed tracks for our first band album. We're currently in the mixing stage, shooting for April / May release, and gigs to follow.

Finally, the Korg padKONTROL promo video I shot last year is in the final edit stage, to be posted on korg.com and run in major music stores. I provided the entire soundtrack and perform some of my own tunes live on the padKONTROL and a Powerbook. I'll post a link to the video as soon as it's online.

DECEMBER 2006

Hello from Deer Park, NY! After a long delay, I'm finally back with a quick update. We've moved and are still getting settled in our new place. It's taken a lot more time, effort and expense than anticipated, but it's totally worth it. I'll soon be setting up a dedicated electronic production / mixing studio, with a soundproof drum practice / live tracking room to follow. We're also now on broadband, which will allow me to add a lot more video and audio content to this site and my my MySpace and YouTube pages.

In other news:

AD ASTRA (formerly Joe Nardulli Band) IN THE STUDIO - We're currently laying down basic tracks for our first band album, with Magic Elf guitarist / engineer Carl Roa at the board. We're recording the first 11 tunes written and arranged as a band since Joe's debut solo CD. We expect to complete the album by late January, just in time for --

G3LI - Tentatively scheduled for February 9, 2007 at the IMAC Theater in Huntington, this will be the first of their "Long Island's Own" concerts to feature instrumental, progressive rock! The show will feature Ad Astra, Favored Nations' recording artist Rob Balducci, and Magic Elf. Confirmation and updates to follow...

SYS-X - My debut CD has been mastered (by producer / engineer Chris Fasulo), and it sounds amazing! Early 2007 should afford me enough time to get it pressed and released, with online sales, and hopefully some live performances, to follow.

In the meantime, many other CD's with my drumming, programming and/or composing can be purchased on my cds page.

Thanks again for visiting my site, and a very happy and healthy Holiday season and New Year to all!

JULY / AUGUST 2006

Hello again & thanks for stopping by.

The big news right now: we are moving! Yes, at long last, a bigger & better home studio, a permanent drum practice room, cable hookup so I can upload more video... and some actual breathing space -- what a concept! The next site updates will occur after the move. Wish us luck!

In other news:

Last month I shot a promo / educational video for Korg's amazing new padKONTROL MIDI controller with author / editor / producer / electronic music guru Craig Anderton behind the camera! I wrote and performed 8 tunes live, using just the padKONTROL and a Powerbook. It should be posted on the Korg website once completed. I'll post the link as soon as it's available!

The Joe Nardulli Band is now Ad Astra. We've been spending most of the summer writing tunes for our first "band" album, and hope to do some more gigs by late summer / early fall.

Lastly (and I know I've said this a few times before, but...) I'm finally getting the SYS-X failure to obey... CD finished masters! CD manufacturing and mass promotion (including live performances!) are to follow...

As always, CD's with my drumming, programming and/or composing can be purchased on my cds page. Transactions are processed via PayPal secure shopping cart, and you can pay by credit card OR PayPal account if you have one.

MAY / JUNE 2006
Hello again, and thanks for stopping by!

NEWS FLASH: Static has been added as the first track of EER-MUSIC.com's SUMMER BLAST 2006 fusion radio show!! This is an 8+ hour playlist of new & classic fusion & prog tunes, from a great music review site. Check it out here!

Static now has it's own web site -- www.staticbandny.com -- with links to CD reviews, audio clips, and sites to purchase our first album Patterns. We also just received a 4-star review by Andy Korukhin in the Russian magazine Dark City (I'm working on getting an English translation...). Meanwhile, Mike & I have begun writing tunes for a follow-up to Patterns.

Joe Nardulli Band's next gig is Wednesday, May 10 at 9PM at Lucky's in Bayside, Queens. There are two other bands after us: Surrender and Dressed to Kill. This is also a reunion night for Nobody's, the "famed" late eighties/early nineties Queens rock club. Hope to see you there!

SYS-X has reached the top 10 on Broadjam for the 2nd time! Meanwhile, the failure to obey... CD mastering should be completed this month. As always, the old mixes (as well as some new tunes) can be heard on the audio page. However, I'm most excited about finishing the new version so I can start playing it out on some live gigs!

Meanwhile, other CD's with my drumming, programming and/or composing can be purchased on my cds page. Transactions are processed via PayPal secure shopping cart, and you can pay by credit card OR PayPal account if you have one.

MARCH / APRIL 2006
CD's can now be purchased by credit card on this site! Transactions are processed via PayPal secure shopping cart; you DO NOT need a PayPal account to order, but if you do have one, you can use it. Visit my all-new cds page to order.

Static Patterns is in rotation at several great progressive Internet radio stations! Station banners are listed below the news items. Be sure to check out and support them; they are a huge support to the independent prog music scene!

Ghost Companion from Static Patterns was been named Track of the Day at GarageBand.com for April 2 after finishing at #37 in round 1 of the song contest. Hear the track and read member reviews at the GarageBand.com Static page.

ChemicalX (remix2), a SYS-X internet-only track, just made the Electronic / Drum N' Bass Top 10 list on Broadjam! Check it out at the Broadjam SYS-X page.

Meanwhile, the forthcoming SYS-X failure to obey... album is being mastered by nationally renown producer Chris Fasulo, with Summer 2006 release and live performances to follow.

Lastly, thanks to Denis at the FaST Metal Pages for the awesome artist page! Check it out here!

JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2006
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Sorry for the delay in updating this page, but I do have a lot of new stuff going on:

Static Patterns just received a great review by Bob Mulvey of the Dutch Progressive Rock Page! Check it out here.

I finally managed to post a video clip -- a whopping 47 seconds of the Joe Nardulli Band live! Check it out on the video page. More clips, and formats, to follow...

Speaking of JNB, we will be playing March 10 @ 10PM at the Funky Munky Lounge in Oceanside, NY. Visit joenardulli.com for more info.

My SYS-X failure to obey... cd is scheduled to be mastered this month. I'm also toying with a new live performance drum + synth setup. More on that next time...

Steve Booke's latest cd Devotion: Music inspired by "The Passion of the Christ", on which I played hand percussion (and for the first time, DJEMBE!) is out now on the Progressive Arts label! Available from many online retailers or from stevebooke.com.

I also just laid down some drum tracks for guitarist / keyboardist / composer David Bagsby for his upcoming cd project. Visit his site for more info and tons of clips from this multitalented and extremely diverse artist!

Lastly, I've added a what's in my cd wallet section to the misc page... not that anyone necessarily cares what I listen to, but to honor the artists I like by listing them on the web one mo' time!

SEPTEMBER 2005
This was a very busy month in the home studio!

I'm almost finished mixing 2 new tunes, Warzone and Disjointed, which I'll start shopping to dj's & labels once they're mixed & mastered (unfinished demo versions are on the audio page).

Being so impressed with the improved sound quality of my Mac running Digital Performer (and a slight improvement in audio recording techniques), I've decided to remix the entire failure to obey a traffic control device album in DP, and I also may add the chemicalX remix as a bonus track. I'll begin shopping the cd to labels once mixed & mastered.

I'm also happy to announce that my live electronic drum + synth kit is now a reality! With the addition of the Roland TD-6 module to my TMC-6 and Hart Dynamics Accupads, Ecymbals, Epedals & Multipad, I can actually play beats, subbass lines, chord changes, synth parts and various samples live and in real time!

Lastly, I just completed another Korg programming project, laying down some real live beats demonstrating the awesome new Oasys drumkits, which will be featured on the Korg website (www.korg.com).

AUGUST 2005
NEW DRUMKIT IS HERE!
Designed (fully) and built (mostly) by yours truly, and I am VERY pleased with the results! Check it out on the gear page.
OTHER STUFF...
Joe Nardulli Band gig at Lucky's went well, and we expect to be sharing the bill with Favored Nations' recording artist Rob Balducci again very soon.
I also just completed percussion tracks for Steve Booke's forthcoming cd of music inspired by "The Passion", which will be released on Progressive Arts Music. I think it's some of Steve's best work to date!

JULY 2005
NEW DRUMKIT ON THE WAY
The "PennaKit" is becoming a reality! All the parts are here and the shells are being finished. Full details & pics coming soon to the gear page. It should be completed just in time for...
JNB GIG
Joe Nardulli Band, August 10 at 9PM sharp at Lucky's in Bayside, Queens. This will be a special double bill with Favored Nations (Steve Vai's label) recording artist Rob Balducci!
JNB NEW AUDIO
I've just posted a tune from our gig at The Downtown in Farmingdale. Check it out on the audio page. More live audio (and VIDEO!) coming soon...

MAY / JUNE 2005
BUILDING, PROGRAMMING, GIGGING...
Lots of new endeavors continue to unfold -- ordering the parts for my new custom acoustic drumkit, getting the electronics together for my live d&b / electronica project, and doing some more programming for Korg. More on all of that next month...
As for gigs, I'll be playing April 8 with the Joe Nardulli Band at Lucky's (formerly Crazy Moose Saloon) in Bayside, Queens, and on April 11 with SteveBooke, in a special duo setting, at the Conklin Barn in Huntington (High St. and New York Ave.).

APRIL 2005
EVERYTHING'S "SPRINGING" UP THIS MONTH
Steve Booke's new Violet Samudra cd Bliss Beyond (on which I played percussion) has been released, and it looks and sounds amazing! Visit VioletSamudra.com for more info.

I've just begun playing Evans Drumheads exclusively (thanks, Steve Lobmeier!), and they sound amazing! I've also repositioned my kit to be more ergonomic, and am considering building a new custom kit from scratch.

I'm also setting up a new MAC-based recording / sequencing setup; much frustration lies ahead I'm sure, but not without a major increase in flexibility and sound quality!

Lastly, the search continues for the best possible electronic drum equipment to use with my Hart Dynamics pads to play my SYS-X and other drum & bass tunes live. My goal is to play breakbeats on the acoustic kit while triggering synths & samples with the pads, all live & in real time.

Updates & new pics of all to follow...

FEBRUARY 2005

NEW SITE
Happy New Year & welcome to my new site! It is just a beginning, as is some of the music posted here. All new music will be demoed through this site first (on the audio page). I am in the process of uploading my most recent works, so check back often. All comments & questions are welcome, and thanks for listening.
JOE NARDULLI BAND GIG
My instrumental prog rock fusion band, featuring Joe Nardulli (guitar), Eric Davis (keys) and Jay Levine (bass), will be playing at Cannos' Swiss Tavern, Lynbrook NY, on Saturday, Jan. 29, along with the amazing Eric Wollman Trio; show starts at 9:30.
PROGRAMMING VINNIE PAUL DRUM PARTS
This month I spent a week transcribing Vinnie Paul's amazing drum parts from over 2 dozen Pantera and DamagePlan tunes, and then programming them on my Korg Triton, in the form of a 15-minute medley. This served as the accompaniment for Marshall Product Manager (and Grim Reaper guitarist) Nick Bowcott's tribute to the late Pantera / DamagePlan guitarist Dimebag Darrell. Nick performed this set as special guest of Ozzy Osbourne / Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde at Guitar World Magazine's 25th Anniversary celebration at the House of Blues in L.A. on January 21 (coinciding with WinterNAMM 2005) to rave reviews from fellow musicians, fans, and family and friends of the late Darrell, including Vinnie Paul himself.
